Retro Candy Cane Christmas Cards With a Pop of Pink
Tired of Christmas cards that all look exactly the same? Girl, I hear ya! My Retro Candy Cane Christmas collection is a set of personalized candy cane Christmas cards, photo ornaments and matching extras covered in diagonal red and light pink stripes. It’s for anyone who wants something a little non-traditional for Christmas, and every piece is on Zazzle.
I designed this whole collection myself. I took a set of plain vertical stripes, turned them into candy cane diagonals and wrapped them around squiggly little photo frames.
It still has that nostalgic, Christmassy vibe. Just with a pop of pink instead of the usual red and green.

What’s in the Collection
The Retro Candy Cane Christmas collection has 14 pieces, and every single one matches. Here’s what you can grab:
- Flat photo Christmas cards
- Folded photo Christmas cards
- Photo postcards
- Photo ornaments: single photo, two photos and two-sided
- Christmas party invitation
- Envelopes
- Return address labels
- Gift tags
- Photo stickers
Candy Cane Christmas Cards & Postcards
The candy cane Christmas cards are the heart of this collection. You get flat cards, folded cards and postcards, and they all put your favorite family photo right in the middle of a scalloped oval frame wrapped in stripes.
The flat card is one of my two favorite pieces, because it shows off the design the most. Big stripes, big photo, no fuss. You swap in your picture, add your names and the year, and that’s it. Postcards are the easy route if you’re sending a ton of cards and don’t wanna deal with stuffing envelopes. I don’t blame you one bit.

Photo Ornaments & Keepsakes
The photo ornaments are the pieces people actually keep. There’s a single-photo ornament with stripes on the back, a two-photo version (perfect for the kids on one side and the dog on the other, because the pup is family too) and a two-sided one with your photo on both sides.
Real talk… the oval frame was the hardest part of this whole design. Finding photos that sat nicely inside that oval was a challenge, even for me. So when you pick yours, go with a picture where everybody’s faces are close to the middle and there’s a little breathing room around them.

Envelopes, Labels & Gift Tags
The envelopes, return address labels, gift tags and stickers are the little extras that make the whole thing look pulled together. The envelope carries the candy cane stripes on the back, so the fun starts before anybody even opens it.
Slap a striped return address label on the front, and your cards look matchy in the mailbox too. The gift tags and photo stickers work on presents, treat bags and cookie boxes.

Christmas Party Invitations
The Christmas party invitation is my other favorite piece, and honestly, it might be the one that shows off the stripes the best. “Christmas Party” sits in a pretty script inside the scalloped oval, with all your party details right underneath.
If you’re hosting this year, it’s an easy way to tell your peeps this ain’t gonna be a boring night. And since it matches the cards, your whole season looks planned. Even if you threw it together last minute.

The Story Behind the Stripes
The Retro Candy Cane Christmas design started with a pattern of hand-drawn looking stripes. I don’t even remember where I found it! But the stripes were vertical, and vertical was a little boring. So I turned them diagonal to give them some oomph, and boom… they looked like real candy canes.
The red and very, very light pink came from a business card I designed earlier this year. I looked at it and thought, this would be a really cute color combo for Christmas. Then I found these squiggly frames, but I wanted room for a photo. So I took the frame into Illustrator (or maybe Affinity Designer, I bounce between them) and made an offset so I could build a photo mask inside it.
Stripes and scallops are both having a moment right now. Pinterest’s 2026 trend predictions put bold, circus-style stripes on the list, and designers have been calling scalloped edges a major decor trend since 2025. So I put them together. But let’s be real… I mostly wanted something that didn’t look like every other card out there.
How Customizing Works on Zazzle
Customizing the Retro Candy Cane Christmas pieces on Zazzle takes a few minutes. You can change everything inside the design, like your photo, names and the year. The stripes and frames stay put, because that’s the whole look.
- Open the piece you want from the collection on Zazzle.
- Swap in your own photo.
- Add your names, the year and any message you want.
- Check the preview, place your order, and Zazzle prints and ships it to you.
When to Order & Send Your Christmas Cards
Order your Christmas cards in the fall, and send them right after Thanksgiving, or the first week of December at the very latest. That way, people actually get your cards, whether you’re mailing them across town or across the ocean.
The post office backs me up on this one. The USPS 2026 holiday mailing deadlines are December 9 for international First-Class mail and December 17 for First-Class mail inside the US. If you’ve got family overseas, December 9 is the date to circle. So go get that photo picked out now.
Ready to Send Something a Little Different?
If you’re over red-and-green cards that blend in with everybody else’s, these candy cane stripes are for you. Pick your favorite photo, grab the pieces you need and let the pink do the talking. You got this, girl!
